Meeting with Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski.
Meeting with Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski.

Aleksander Kwasniewski thanked Vladimir Putin for participating in events dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Nazi concentration camp of Auschwitz by the Red Army.

Mr. Putin thanked the Polish President for the invitation, and said that the state ceremony of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz had made a very strong impression on him.

We remember how many Poles fought on the fronts of the Second World War, we remember and value those who fought the fascists on the Eastern and Western fronts, and we remember and honour the deeds of the Soviet soldiers who liberated this beautiful city of Krakow, Mr. Putin said. This is a past that unites us.

Speaking of economic cooperation between the two countries, Mr. Putin noted that trade turnover in 2004 came to around $6 billion. The significant imbalance in trade is evening out – Polish import is growing.

Mr. Putin said that Russia will now and in future fully carry out its obligations to delivering raw energy materials to Poland.

The Presidents also discussed the Russian-Polish economic forum that is to be held later this year.
