The Convention was developed in conformity with the Charter of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, on the basis of the UN Convention on privileges and immunities of 1946, and also on the basis of other international legal documents which regulate issues of privileges and immunities of international organisations which the Russian Federation belongs to.
The Convention establishes the privileges and immunities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, of its officials and experts on assignments for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, of representatives of member countries, and of permanent representatives of member countries under the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
