Mr Medvedev and Mr Rakhmon discussed energy sector cooperation. The two Presidents agreed that construction of Sangtudin Hydroelectric Power Plant-1, which will begin operation very soon, has been an example of successful cooperation in this area. Mr Medvedev and Mr Rakhmon affirmed plans to discuss further construction of hydroelectricity plants in Tajikistan.
The two leaders also confirmed readiness to step up geological prospecting work for gas deposits in Tajikistan.
Also on the agenda were military and military-technical cooperation.
Regional problems, in particular the situation in Afghanistan, were the subject of separate discussions. The two Presidents affirmed their willingness to facilitate more active efforts by all parties interested in helping Afghanistan, including at a special conference on settling the situation in Afghanistan, organised under the aegis of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
