The decree confirms the commission’s new membership and broadens its functions.
As part of the work to implement state export control policy, the commission, now chaired by Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov, is to organise work on forecasting and identifying threats to Russia’s security connected to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the means of their delivery, analyse the effectiveness of international cooperation in this area and draw up proposals for vectors and forms of cooperation with foreign countries and international organisations in the nuclear, space and other science-intensive and high-technology sectors.
The decree reaffirms Russia’s commitment to the principle of non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and the means of their delivery, and expands the legal framework in this area.
The Commission’s new membership takes into account the changes that have been made to the federal executive power structure and will increase the responsibility of the decision-making process in this very sensitive area of the state’s work.
