Vladimir Putin visited the writer’s estate Vyoshenskaya in the Rostov Region, where the author of “And Quiet Flows the Don” spent the last years of his life.
The President laid flowers on the grave of the writer and his wife Mariya Sholokhova.
Over a cup of tea Mr. Putin talked to members of the writer’s family, and on leaving the house he wrote in the Honoured Guestbook: “I am truly glad to visit the memorial estate of Mikhail Sholokhov and thank the custodians of this wonderful museum for their selfless work. You have managed not only to gather unique items belonging to the great writer, but to convey the unique atmosphere in which he created his immortal work.”
