After meeting one-on-one the talks continued with the participation of delegations of both countries.
As part of their negotiations the President of Russia and the Prime Minister of Spain signed a Declaration on Strategic Partnership, which announces the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two countries in all aspects of their relations.
In the trade and economic field this should give particular impetus to the process of establishing joint enterprises, creating conditions for mutual investment, and promoting cooperation in the field of energy, including renewable energy and promoting tourism.
The Declaration also provides for cooperation between the Ministries of Defence and Armed Forces of both countries.
In the field of science and technology the emphasis is, inter alia, on cooperation in the use of nuclear energy and of outer space for peaceful purposes, and the fight against climate change.
The document devotes much attention to the sphere of culture and education, including cooperation in the field of press and audiovisual media, and in the transfer of archive information into electronic format and the exchange of archival material, as well as further promotion of the study of Russian and Spanish languages and cultures.
The parties also signed documents on cooperation in energy and tourism, and a number of agreements in the fields of transport, electric power industry, finance and media. The agreement on the transit of Spanish military equipment and personnel to Afghanistan through Russia is particularly important.
Dmitry Medvedev and Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero also gave a joint press conference.
