Today, scientific discoveries and artistic achievements continue to be an integral part of and condition for national progress, President Vladimir Putin said at the award ceremony for the 2004 National Awards in science and technology, literature and the arts.
The value of knowledge and talent, creative searching and artistic taste will only grow in modern Russia, Mr Putin said, saying that he is sure this will all soon bring the country significant and tangible benefits.
The state now has the opportunity to put more resources into these areas and see through truly ambitious undertakings. It is not by chance that the National Awards have gained in prestige and significance.
