The bombings in London, the terrorist acts in Iraq, Turkey, Israel and Egypt and the criminal attacks on the authorities in Chechnya and Dagestan show that terrorism remains one of the main threats facing the world today. Russia, therefore, will carry out a significant part of the joint work in combating terrorism, President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting.
The Interior Ministry is playing an increasingly important part in implementing a civilised immigration policy. Russia has an interest in attracting qualified specialists and labour from abroad.
The President also noted the need to launch a decisive offensive against the drugs trade. The present objective is to create effective and stable anti-drug “security zones” not only along the Russian Federation’s borders but also along the external borders of the CIS.
