Mr Medvedev said helping young people adapt to the complex conditions of life today, including in the economic crisis situation, is one of the most important tasks that the state authorities and religious organisations can work on together.
The President said that giving young people opportunities for creative and innovative realisation and self-development is another priority task. Efforts should be made to encourage young people to get involved in education and science, so as to play an active part in the country’s modernisation, Mr Medvedev said.
The President also called for combined efforts to suppress all forms of extremism, involve young people in intercultural dialogue, and educate them in a spirit of tolerance.
Recalling that 2009 has been declared the Year of Youth in Russia and the CIS countries, Mr Medvedev called for efforts to develop and implement more effective methods for coordinating the state authorities’ and religious organisations’ work on drawing up youth policy.
