Mr Putin and Mr Sharon discussed a number of topical issues concerning Russian-Israeli cooperation. In particular, the two leaders expressed their satisfaction at the development of anti-terrorist cooperation between the two countries and noted the importance of regular contacts in this area, including the recent visit to Israel by a Russian delegation headed by Plenipotentiary Presidential Representative in the Southern Federal District Dmitry Kozak.
Mr Putin and Mr Sharon also discussed the situation regarding the Middle East peace process, in particular, Russia’s practical assistance in encouraging positive development of the dialogue between Israel and Palestine and in improving the situation in the region in general.
The conversation took place at the Israeli side’s initiative.
