The two leaders discussed expanding cooperating in the fuel and energy sector, looking in particular at the question of long-term energy supplies by Russia to China. They also discussed military-technical cooperation, cooperation between the two countries within the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and the issue of increasing the share of machine-tool sector products in bilateral trade.
Mr Putin and Mr Hu support the development of cooperation in the border regions and the expansion of active contacts at regional level between the two countries. The two leaders expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the agreement on the Russian-Chinese border.
Mr Putin is expected to make two visits to China in 2006. The President will make an official visit to China in March to mark the start of the Year of Russia in China, and will visit China a second time in June for the jubilee summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
