19 heads of state from the Asia-Pacific region and the heads of state of Taiwan and Hong Kong took part in the APEC summit.
The final round of talks between APEC leaders took place not in the centre of Pusan, but in the Nurimaru APEC house on a small peninsula in the Sea of Japan.
”Security and Transparency of the Asia-Pacific Region“ was the theme of the second day of the APEC summit.
Following the summit the declaration on the summit's results was adopted.
The leaders of APEC economies declared their support for measures to enhance free trade and for the World Trade Organization. In particular, they welcomed Russia's aspirations to accede to the WTO.
In the declaration heads of state and government of APEC members said they were ready to undertake joint actions in the struggle against terrorism.
The intention to act against the spreading of a pandemic flu and also to strengthen energy security in the Asia-Pacific region was expressed in the document.
The participants in the APEC summit supported the initiative and approved guidelines to counteract international trade of counterfeit and pirated products, including through the Internet.
After the talks the leaders of APEC countries were photographed in the east garden of the Nurimaru house wearing traditional South Korean silk dressing gowns.
