The bills on civil society and non-governmental organizations, presently being considered by the lower house of parliament, was discussed at meeting with head of the Presidential Council for Assisting the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights Institutions Ella Pamfilova.
Ella Pamfilova expressed concern on behalf of non-governmental organizations whose activities would be subject to more control, and the President declared that he would discuss the situation with the heads of the lower house of parliament.
According to the President, political activity in Russia should be as transparent as possible, and this applies to the sources financing political activity in the country. If political activity in Russia is continually financed from abroad the state should be aware of this, especially if other states are financing politically-active organizations in Russia and using them as an instrument of their foreign policy.
Vladimir Putin agrees with Ella Pamfilova that civil society organizations should not be made to suffer from the bill.
