Vladimir Putin sent a greeting to the participants of the Second International Antiterrorism Media Forum which opened in Moscow

December 8, 2005
00:00

The greeting reads, in particular:

”Your forum is being held under the auspices of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and is especially significant for the development of cooperation. Over the last few years, the CSTO has begun to fulfil its potential and become a significant factor in peace and stability in Eurasia.

Your discussion centres on a significant and topical question, the role of the media and civil society organizations in the struggle against international terrorism, drug trafficking and other present-day challenges. The security and progress of our countries as well as the safety of millions of our citizens are directly affected by the extent to which we can resist national and religious intolerance. As media representatives and cultural figures, your words and influence can make a real contribution to increasing trust between people and help develop a resolute public condemnation of any display of extremism or xenophobia. I am convinced that the Agreement on Cooperation in the Sphere of the Humanities signed between member states of the CIS will offer significant possibilities to work further in this direction.

I expect that your forum will act as a stimulus to the new promising and necessary projects regarding cooperation in the cultural and information spheres in Eurasian territory.“
