Vladimir Putin declared that neglecting legal means to solve national problems can result in a situation whereby the interests of certain departments or coorporations dominate. He emphasized the importance of professionally reviewing draft bills since this is closely connected with this theme.
The President called on the Association’s members to actively take part in improving legislation and law enforcement activities.
The head of the state expressed his hope that the Association will become an influential, effective civil society organization that will offer additional opportunities for productive and professional work.
The President considers that lawyers should help improve legal structures so that they can better fight against today’s threats, including terrorism.
Vladimir Putin also has called on the Association to contribute towards guaranteeing common standards for the legal protection of all citizens on Russian territory.
The Association of Russian Lawyers is composed of regional and federal lawyers’ unions. Some of the Association’s priorities are as follows: providing legal support to priority national projects and developing basic social acts together with the Russian Public Chamber. Chairman of Russia’s Audit Chamber Sergei Stepashin, Rector of Moscow State Legal Academy Oleg Kutafin and Presidential Aide on Legal Issues Veniamin Yakovlev initiated the creation of a new social movement.
