Lyudmila Putin got to know the creativity of a remarkable dance ensemble directed by one of the most famous flamenco dancers, Maria Pages.
The concert took place in a unconventional way: before each dance the head of the theatre commented on the dance's technical aspects as well as on its essence and inner meaning.
Following the concert Maria Pages gave the Russian First Lady a symbolic gift, a shawl, which is a traditional element in Spanish dance.
Lyudmila Putin thanked the ensemble for their excellent performance and had her photograph taken with the dancers as a souvenir.
The Russian First Lady addressed the ensemble in Spanish. She also signed the book for the honoured guests of the city of Torrelodones.
Maria Pages and the theatre are first and foremost famous for their unconventional conception of the flamenco. In 2002 Maria Pages received a national choreography prize for creativity. In 2003–2005 her ensemble was on a tour that took them all over the world.
In January 2006 the dancer visited Russia and took part in the anniversary gala concert in honour of the founder and head of the State Academic Ensemble of National Dance, Igor Moiseev.
