Meeting with Russian Olympic athletes at the Kremlin, Mr Putin said that Russia’s figure skaters put on a sensational performance at the Olympics in Turin and that Russia’s medals in the freestyle, sledding and bobsleigh events were a real breakthrough.
Russia’s athletes showed in Turin that they are strong not only in sports that are traditional for Russia but are also proving themselves ever-stronger in new disciplines and are achieving good results, the President said.
Mr Putin thanked the Russian team’s trainers, thanked all the athletes who represented the country at the games and also thanked the women athletes with the upcoming holiday of International Women’s Day on March 8.
