Mr Putin congratulated Mr Prodi on the official start of his work as Prime Minister of Italy. Both leaders underscored their desire for close cooperation in the interests of developing the diverse ties between Russia and Italy, both in bilateral issues and in international affairs.
Mr Putin and Mr Prodi also discussed their upcoming planned contacts.
