Speaking at a meeting of the Council for Physical Culture and Sport, President Vladimir Putin called on the Russian business community to become more involved in developing children’s and young people’s sport throughout the country and to take part in building sports infrastructure for disabled people. The President said that this work should receive support from all quarters.
Mr Putin also noted a need for fundamental change to the way physical education is carried out in schools and said he hoped that the relevant state agencies would take coordinated decisions in this area by the beginning of the next school year.
The development of top-level sport also remains a priority. The President noted the need to strengthen the legal base for professional sport and ensure full material and legal guarantees for sportspeople and for their trainers.
