The President’s telegrams noted, in particular:
“Russia sees Canada as an important partner with whom we pursue successful cooperation in a diverse range of areas. With Russia holding the presidency of the G8 this year, I would particularly like to note our fruitful work together within this influential organisation. It is highly symbolic that the decision on the Russian presidency of the G8 was taken at the summit in Kananaskis.
I am pleased to note that relations between Canada and Russia are developing actively. I am certain that the bilateral dialogue we are conducting in the energy sector offers excellent prospects for the future”.
