Russia, South Korea and Austria are the three main contenders to host the 2014 Olympics. The winning country will be named on July 5, 2007. At the meeting with Mr Putin, Mr Tyagachev noted that Russia came out ahead of candidates such as Spain, Bulgaria and Kazakhstan, which had all prepared very seriously in their bids to host the Olympics.
Mr Putin and Mr Tyagachev discussed issues regarding the effective implementation of the plan to prepare the resort city of Sochi to host the Olympics. In particular, they examined transport infrastructure development, including major reconstruction of the Adler Airport, enlargement of roads and the construction of sports facilities.
