Youth from Russia, the USA, Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan have gathered this week in the city of Pushkin near St Petersburg to discuss the very same problems that are being discussed at the “adult” summit – energy security, education, the fight against infectious diseases – and prepare their recommendations for G8 leaders.
64 youth delegates between 13 and 17 years old and from each G8 country participated in the J8. The participants in the Junior G8 voted by secret ballot to choose eight representatives who meet with the heads of state and government in Strelna. They gave the G8 leaders the document that was prepared during the youth forum in Pushkin.
Earlier this week the J8 participants met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
