The European Convention on the Suppression of Terrorism was signed by the Russian Federation on May 15, 2003, and ratified by the Russian parliament on July 14, 2006.
Russia participated actively in the drafting and adoption of the Protocol in the Council of Europe. The Protocol aims to modernise the 1977 European Convention on the Suppression of Terrorism, which has become outdated in many respects. The amendments made by the Protocol aim at strengthening international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, above all in Europe, and are in Russia’s interests.
