Mr Patrushev reported to the President about the implementation of the federal targeted state border program. A total of 37 border posts will be opened under this program before the end of the year, and another 35 will be opened in 2007. Three border departments are being built, and the construction of another four will be started in the near future, Mr Patrushev reported.
In building the new border posts, particular attention is paid to social aspects such as developing the required infrastructure and housing for the border guards.
These measures will help guarantee the security of Russia’s national borders and make it possible to upgrade border protection to a new level, Mr Patrushev concluded.
Mr Patrushev also informed the President about the work of the National Counter-terrorism Committee (NCC), which held a meeting on August 25 in Rostov-on-Don. The committee’s main tasks are the prevention of terrorism and liquidation of its destructive consequences.
Another body, the Federal Operational Headquarters, is directly involved in fighting terrorism itself. Mr Patrushev said that this body will also continue to carry out its work according to plan.
