Opening the talks with the Hungarian Prime Minister, Mr Putin said he was certain that this meeting would give a new boost to developing the partnership between the two countries.
Mr Gyurcsany confirmed Hungary’s interest in cooperating with Russia in the energy sector.
Following the talks between Mr Putin and Mr Gyurcsany, Russian Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev and Hungarian Minister of Agriculture and Regional Development Jozsef Graf signed an agreement on cooperation in agriculture and the foodstuffs industry.
Mr Putin and Mr Gyurcsany made press statements following their talks. Russia is interested in developing Hungry’s transport infrastructure and working together with other countries to create major logistics centres, Mr Putin said. Russia also welcomes increased cooperation with Hungary in the fuel and energy sector, in particular, the increase in Hungarian oil company MOL’s involvement in the Russian energy sector.
The President also said that both countries plan to carry out joint high-technology projects, including in the area of nanotechnology.
