When speaking at the monument’s opening ceremony, Vladimir Putin expressed his gratitude to the municipal authorities, Saxony Land, and the German government for helping establish this monument.
The Days of Dostoevskii are being celebrated in Dresden in honour of three anniversaries in 2006. This year is the 185 th anniversary of the writer’s birth, the 125 th anniversary of the writer’s death and the 500 th anniversary of the Dostoevskii family.
Russian national artist and sculptor Aleksandr Rukavishnikov designed the monument to Fedor Dostoevskii.
