In Yaroslavl Mr Putin held a State Council Presidium meeting on developing Russia’s road network. The head of state said that developing the transport infrastructure is one of the key factors in ensuring ongoing economic growth and called for a substantial increase in road construction and rebuilding.
Successfully modernising the country’s road network depends on carrying out an effective investment policy and developing mechanisms for organising an effective partnership between the state and private business, introducing innovative technology and putting in place clear legal regulation of relations in this sector. The President gave an instruction to speed up work on drafting a federal law on roads.
During his working visit, Mr Putin also inspected a new bridge across the Volga River, visited an exhibition of road-building equipment and a winter sport centre.
