Meeting with Russian journalists, President Vladimir Putin gave a positive assessment of the results achieved by the CIS summit in the Belarusian capital, Minsk. Mr Putin said the summit was businesslike and productive.
The CIS leaders agreed that the organisation has good development prospects but that its potential is not being fully realised, and recognised the need to adapt the organisation to the significant changes that have taken place in the post-Soviet area over recent years.
The CIS leaders reacted positively to the proposals made by the working group for reforming the way the organisation functions and agreed to continue work in this direction. The working group will present concrete proposals in the summer of 2007.
