Mr Putin gave the instruction during an enlarged format meeting with the Government Cabinet to discuss the results of the December 6 meeting with the leaders of the country’s political parties.
The December 6 meeting examined ways to fight all forms of extremism. Combating extremism in all its forms, including terrorism, ethnic, religious and social intolerance, is one of the state’s biggest priorities, but it requires a coordinated effort from political parties, other public organisations and all of civil society in general, Mr Putin said at the meeting last week.
At today’s meeting with the Cabinet, Mr Putin asked the ministers to formulate their proposals on increasing liability for crimes motivated by extremism and to draw up a separate programme for working with the country’s various ethnic and immigrant communities.
