Gazprom reached an agreement with the company Sakhalin Energy about joining the Sakhalin-2 project. Gazprom will receive 50 percent of the shares plus one. Gazprom signed the corresponding agreement with Shell, Mitsubishi and Mitsui, Gazprom’s chairman of the board of directors Aleksei Miller said at a meeting with Sakhalin Energy shareholders and President Vladimir Putin.
The head of state declared that the Russian authorities will support the implementation of the project. Vladimir Putin pointed out that the Russian party is satisfied with the serious, thorough and businesslike attitudes of partners in the project, partners who incur great risks linked to the implementation of the project. The President noted with satisfaction that Russian environmental departments and investors have harmonious approaches towards resolving fundamental environmental problems associated with the project.
Vladimir Putin considers that the corporate decision to have Gazprom join the project Sakhalin-2 will make a significant contribution towards improving the situation on the world’s energy markets.
