The Convention adopted by the UNESCO General Conference on October 19, 2005 is to prevent the use of doping in sports and is binding upon the signatories to take relevant national and international measures in keeping with the articles of the World Anti-Doping Code.
It suggests that countries should develop international cooperation to simplify findings sharing and protect athletes and defend sports ethics. It also calls for broader international cooperation between the signatories and organizations, notably the World Anti-Doping Agency, to fight doping.
When the Convention becomes effective, all athletes will be subject to common rules and regular scrutiny. Those found in breach of the Convention will bear equal liabilities.
