The meeting discussed issues concerning the development of civil society institutions, support for nongovernmental organisations, improving the judicial system, and developing social control over the activities of law-enforcement agencies and penal structures, as well as in the fight against extremism, drugs, youth criminality and child homelessness.
When speaking about the forthcoming 2007 elections in the State Duma and in regional legislative assemblies, Vladimir Putin noted how important it is that public organisations participate in the electoral process.
