The head of state held a meeting to prepare Russia’s presidency at the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit (APEC) in the capital of the Primorye Region.
The proposal is that Vladivostok will host the APEC summit in 2012. The official decision to do so can be taken at the end of 2007.
Along with this the head of state emphasised that holding the APEC summit in Vladivostok is not a goal in and of itself, but one way to develop the whole region. Summit preparations should be combined with Russia’s own plans to develop the Far East.
The President said that he signed a decree to establish a governmental commission to develop the Far East headed by the Prime Minister, and also supported creating a special permanent structure in the government cabinet that would permanently work on the problems of the Far East and eastern Siberia with a view to integrating these regions more effectively both in Russia’s economy and the world market.
