The Federal Law enables Russia to become a party to the Budapest Convention on the Contract for the Carriage of Goods by Inland Waterways.
The convention’s terms will become an important part of the work of Russian economic actors involved in the commercial carriage of goods by river in other countries, above all on the Danube and Rhine.
The convention establishes a common set of rules for all participants in the transport process, defines their liability for damage caused, and contains other legal provisions.
A number of the convention’s provisions considerably develop or complement Russian legislation on transport via inland waterways, and set out rules that meet the demands of modern international shipping.
