The Agreement between the Russian Federation and the People's Republic of China on the Status of the Russian Federation's Military Units which are Temporarily on the Territory of the People's Republic of China, and the Status of the People's Republic of China's Military Units which are Temporarily on the Territory of the Russian Federation for the Purpose of Carrying Out Joint Military Exercises was signed in Beijing on 6 August 2005 and in Moscow on 8 August 2005.
The Agreement determines the status of Russian servicemen while on Chinese territory and that of Chinese servicemen while on Russian territory for the purpose of carrying out joint military exercises. The Agreement provides for a regime that governs how the military units of one party cross the state borders of the other party, a regime applicable to the import and export of weapons and military equipment, to the provision of material support, to indemnification for damages incurred, to taxation, to the protection of private information and the exchange of this information between the parties.
The Agreement is designed to further support the already high level of combat readiness of both parties’ armed forces, one that allows them to adequately respond to new challenges and threats to international security.
