The centrepiece of the meeting’s agenda was the preparations for a forthcoming summit of the CIS heads of state in Moscow and the situation in the North Caucasus. Mr Putin listened to reports on the progress of the counter-terrorist operation in Chechnya and on measures taken to rebuild the republic's social infrastructure and economy.
The meeting discussed the situation with collecting taxes for the federal budget in January 2000.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Mikhail Kasyanov also reported on the results of his visit to Japan, together with head of the Russian Central Bank Viktor Gerashchenko, to attend a meeting of G8 finance ministers.
Mr Putin opened the meeting by wishing Deputy Prime Minister for Agriculture Vladimir Shcherbak a happy 61st birthday.
