Mr Putin and Mr Rakhmonov discussed current key issues of bilateral relations, including trade, the economy, hydropower and military-technical cooperation.
The two leaders spoke of the need to coordinate Russia's and Tajikistan's efforts in the fight against international terrorism.
Mr Putin and Mr Rakhmonov also touched upon the issue of coordinating their efforts to help settle the conflict in Afghanistan.
