The final round of Russian-German negotiations.
President Putin with Gerhard Schroeder at a joint news conference.

Participating in the talks were Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defence, Economy, Culture and Internal Affairs of both countries.

Speaking at a news conference held jointly with the German Chancellor, the Russian President spoke highly of his dialogue with the German leaders.

He indicated that Russia was not only overcoming a crisis but was also creating favourable conditions for its partners to expand cooperation, while the Federal Republic of Germany had been and would remain Russia’s major partner in Europe and in the world.

Mr Putin also spoke of a proposal put forward during the talks that a EU representative should be sent to the Russian-American Joint Missile Launch Early Warning Data Exchange Centre.

When commenting on the events involving the head of Media Most, the President said the Prosecutor-General’s Office had not necessarily had to arrest Vladimir Gusinsky. Nevertheless, President Putin said he had no grounds to believe the relevant activities of the Prosecutor-General’s Office were unlawful.
