Vladimir Putin made a special statement in connection with the 75th anniversary of signing the 1925 Geneva Protocol for the Prohibition of the Use in War of Asphyxiating, Poisonous or Other Gases, and of Bacteriological Methods of Warfare and the 25th anniversary of the Convention on the Prohibition of Bacteriological Weapons and Their Destruction, in which he confirmed Russia's strong adherence to the principles and provisions contained in these documents and expressed hope for similar attitude to them on the part of other signatory countries

The statement says that on March 22 of this year a draft federal bill on removing reservations made by the USSR to the Geneva Protocol in 1928 was submitted to the State Duma.

As a depositary country, Russia consistently advocates the creation of an effective mechanism to control the implementation of the 1972 Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on Their Destruction, and takes an active part in negotiations on working out a Protocol aimed at its strengthening and updating.

The text of the statement will be distributed as an official document in the UN and the Geneva Disarmament Conference.
