In the city of Snezhinsk the acting head of state chaired an expanded meeting of the board of the Ministry of Atomic Energy, which discussed the prospects for developing nuclear power engineering in Russia. Among the priority objectives in that area Mr Putin singled out raising safety standards at nuclear energy sites, introducing high technologies and carrying out effective restructuring and conversion of defence plants in the industry.
After the meeting the Acting President answered questions from reporters and visited the Federal Nuclear Centre – the All-Russian Research Institute of Technical Physics, where he went round the museum of nuclear weapons.
Later in the day Mr Putin watched a friendly judo match between a Chelyabinsk and a St Petersburg teams at Chelyabinsk’s Nadezhda sports complex. The match ended in the guests’ 3–2 victory.
