The meeting involved Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov, Defence Minister Igor Sergeyev, Internal Affairs Minister Vladimir Rushailo, Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, Security Council Secretary Sergei Ivanov and Federal Security Service Director Nikolai Patrushev.
Those present discussed routine issues and focused on the investigation of the August 8 terrorist attack in Moscow.
They examined cooperation between security agencies probing into the terrorist attack. Mr Patrushev reported on the results of the investigation and its prospects.
The President instructed those present to more effectively search for suspects.
Internal Affairs Minister Vladimir Rushailo reported on the fifth stage of operation Vikhr-Antiterror, which had started after the terrorist act. He said 62,500 police units comprising 310,000 officers had maintained law and order in the past 24 hours and were assisted by 27,000 members of civilian patrols.
Mr Rushailo said several related crimes had been solved. Police arrested two men in Kursk and confiscated 14 400-gram TNT packs. He said the Voskresensk police department in the Moscow Region had arrested a man carrying 800 grams of TNT and two detonators. All three suspects are being checked for possible complicity in the Moscow terrorist attack.
Mr Rushailo said over 1,000 kg of explosives and 48 explosive devices had been confiscated in the last 24 hours.
