At the end of the official visit to the Land of the Rising Sun, the Russian head of state visited the Kodokan Martial Arts Palace.
The Russian President and the Japanese Prime Minister attended a joint training session of Japanese and Russian judo wrestlers. President Putin wished outstanding achievements to the athletes at the forthcoming Olympics in Sydney.
The President then took his place on a tatami mat and demonstrated about a dozen holds. Mr Putin was awarded a diploma and the 6th dan, a high martial arts ranking.
The Russian head of state then flew from Tokyo to New York.
