Armenian President Robert Kocharian and members of the Armenian delegation before the talks.
Vladimir Putin and Armenian President Robert Kocharian signed the Declaration on Armenian-Russian allied cooperation oriented towards the 21st century.
Joint news conference with Armenian President Robert Kocharian.

The two leaders discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation and current regional issues.

The parties signed the Declaration on Armenian-Russian allied cooperation oriented towards the 21st century. The document states mutual commitment of both countries to consistently promote political, military, commercial, economic, and cultural contact at all levels and their intent to further coordinate their efforts at the regional and global level, including cooperation in the UN, OSCE, CIS and others organisations.

Russia and Armenia advocated earliest resolution of the Nagorny Karabakh conflict solely by peaceful means on a fair basis that would be acceptable to all parties involved. In this connection the Russian Federation welcomed a direct Armenian-Azerbaijani dialogue at the highest level. The Armenian delegation in its turn noted with approval Russia’s positive role in the Nagorny Karabakh conflict settlement process.

After the talks Mr Putin and Mr Kocharian made a statement for the media and talked with the journalists. Speaking with the media, President Putin stated that Russia supported the decision to settle the Nagorny Karabakh conflict solely by peaceful means and would agree to any settlement scenario as long as it was acceptable for the people and governments of both Armenia and Azerbaijan.
