The UN Millennium Summit took place September 6–8, 2000, during the 55th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly.
Delegations from 185 countries, members of the UN, took part in the world’s biggest political forum. More than 150 delegations were led by heads of state or Prime Ministers. Russia was represented by President Vladimir Putin.
Addressing an audience during the opening of the anniversary session of the UN General Assembly, the Russian President put forward two peaceful initiatives related to the nuclear non-proliferation regime and the convocation of the International Conference on the Prevention of the Militarisation of Outer Space in Moscow in the spring of 2001.
