President Putin briefed Christian Ponsle, the Chairman of the French Senate, on the progress of reforms of the Russian government structure and the reorganisation of the Federation Council. The parties also discussed the Chechen conflict and Russia’s efforts to settle it.
At the meeting with the French National Assembly Chairman, Mr Putin and Mr Forni exchanged opinions on a wide range of issues, including Chechnya, the situation in the Balkan countries, economic cooperation, natural gas and other energy supplies to France, and bilateral cooperation in the space programme. Special attention was paid to the ties between France and certain Russian regions.
