In his speech, the Russian head of state discussed the current international situation and assessed the state of Russian-Mongolian relations and prospects for their future development.

Mr Putin said Russia advocated a multi-polar system of international relations that would solve all key problems through collective mechanisms, primarily the UN. He said the opinion of small and medium-sized states must be taken into account.

The Russian President said efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons was a high-priority task. The Russian head of state thanked Mongolia’s political leaders for supporting Russia’s calls for unfailing compliance with the ABM Treaty and its proposal to hold, under the UN aegis, a conference in Moscow next year on preventing the militarisation of space.

Mr Putin stressed that Russia was ready to conduct an active dialogue with a sovereign, independent and prosperous Mongolia. The Russian head of state said both countries had an impressive potential for bilateral political, trade and economic, energy, military-technical, law-enforcement, cultural and social cooperation.
