The award in military science was awarded to the authors of a textbook on special training for Federal Security Service staff sent to take part in counter-terrorist operations in the North Caucasus, for their significant contribution to strengthening the country’s defence capability.
The award in this same field was also awarded to the authors of an academic work, Military Policy and the Russian Federation’s Military Security in the Era of Globalisation.
The award in development of arms and military equipment was awarded for the development and commercialisation of systems, equipment and devices designed for use in deep water conditions. The award winners represent some of Russia’s biggest companies, design and research institutions in the area of marine equipment development, as well as specialists in deep-water research.
The award in literature and the arts was awarded to Vladimir Silkin for his book of poems and songs and his music CD about the friendship, unity and fraternal bonds between defenders of the Fatherland.
The Georgy Zhukov National Award was established in 1996 to mark the 100th anniversary of the outstanding Soviet commander’s day of birth. It is awarded by presidential executive order and presented at an annual ceremony in May. A Russian Armed Forces General Staff commission is responsible for selecting the works and achievements competing for the award.
