Mr Putin and Mr Jiang discussed the world situation following the terrorist attacks in the United States. They restated their countries’ firm stance on countering terrorism in all its forms.
The two leaders said they were in favour of creating international mechanisms as soon as possible to counter the threat of terrorism. To that end, Russia and China will continue to closely coordinate their efforts in the United Nations, itsSecurity Council and other international organisations and associations. They will also take measures to improve their bilateral mechanism for fighting terrorism.
Mr Putin and Mr Jiang also touched upon the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum to be held in Shanghai in October 2001, and exchanged opinions on the search for a settlement to the Korean conflict. They also discussed bilateral relations, praising the recent visit to Russia by Chinese Prime Minister Zhu Rongji and stressing the need to implement the practical agreements reached during that visit.
