President Putin spoke by telephone with Turkmen President Saparmurat Niyazov

The Presidents wished each other a Happy New Year 2001 and discussed a number of practical issues related to Russian-Turkmen cooperation. In particular, Mr Putin and Mr Niyazov discussed cooperation in the gas sphere, settling mutual finance obligations, further steps in defining the status of the Caspian Sea, etc.
