President Vladimir Putin took part in the Global Energy Prize award ceremony

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Putin noted the role energy plays in economic development and improving people’s quality of life.

Russia will continue to support research into innovative energy technology, environmental safety and energy efficiency and will help strengthen the energy sector’s scientific potential, the President said.

The winners of this year’s Global Energy Prize are Academician Vladimir Nakoryakov of Novosibirsk, Russia, Doctor Jeffrey Hewitt of the United Kingdom, and Doctor Thorstein Sigfusson of Iceland.

A total of 150 works were nominated for the prize, including many by young scientists and engineers.

The first Global Energy Prize was awarded in St Petersburg on June 15, 2003.
